POKOTABI / Toritenjin
鶏天神
Located in Nagaokakyo, Toritenjin is an izakaya serving chicken skewers like hearts and skin alongside varied poultry dishes such as fried cartilage, yuzukosho grilled chicken, and seasonal plates—well suited for everything from solo drinks to group gatherings.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
At the heart of Toritenjin’s appeal is its focus on chicken skewers, threaded neatly by hand and accompanied by a wide range of poultry dishes suited to any drinking mood. The yakitori selection includes chicken skin, tail (bonjiri), heart, and liver, each prepared to let the inherent flavour of the meat shine, particularly when seasoned simply with salt. An assortment of tsukune chicken meatballs is also available, making it easy to sample different cuts and textures as your drinks progress.
Starting the meal is just as effortless, thanks to thoughtful touches like choosing your own small-dish otoshi appetiser upon sitting down, or opting for a set paired with a cold draft beer. In between skewers, diners can snack on crisp, fragrant fried cartilage or add a sharp kick of heat with chicken thigh grilled with yuzukosho citrus pepper. Beyond poultry, the menu extends to dishes like beef sashimi, pizza, and winter gratin, offering plenty of variety for sharing across the table.
With an unpretentious izakaya atmosphere, the space accommodates solo diners at the counter just as comfortably as small groups around a table. Operating from 17:00 in the evening until 0:00 late at night, it is a reliable choice whether dropping by spontaneously or booking ahead for a leisurely dinner.
